Roster: Singer-songwriter Emilia Tarrant makes her mark with 'Honeymoon Phase'

Hailing from the unassuming and picturesque city of Winchester in the South of England, Emilia Tarrant's rise as a singer-songwriter of note has been impressive. With only three singles under her belt, this young musician has already made an impact thanks to the sincere and unfiltered way in which she expresses emotion. They say write what you know and that's exactly what Emilia does. In her third single 'Honeymoon Phase', she conveys that coming-of-age experience of first love and subsequent loss. Backed by resplendent piano, we believe every word of her nostalgic and bittersweet narrative. Through this song release, she's been verified by Wonderland for her "crooning vocals and poignant lyricism", as well as finding further support from CLOUT, The Hidden Hits, Neon Music, FAME Magazine, Contact Music and more.

At this pivotal point in Emilia Tarrant's career, we've decided to get to know this burgeoning singer-songwriter a little better.

What's your earliest musical memory?

My earliest musical memory has to be singing along to my parents playlists in the car whilst driving through New Zealand. I must have been around four at the time. The first song I can recollect hearing is Better Together by Jack Johnson and every time I hear the song now, it takes me back to that moment. A lot of songs do that for me.

For new listeners, how would you describe your sound?

I have recently been developing my sound in the studio, experimenting with production for my next releases. I would say that my sound has developed into a blend of acoustic piano songwriting, built upon with ambient and melancholic synth sounds. Production is like songwriting for me, I always want to convey the emotion to my audience through it.

Who are your musical influences?

I have been influenced by many artists over the years, but especially artists such as Birdy, London Grammar and Coldplay inspired me to start playing and writing music. Others, such as Moby, influenced me to learn how to produce music too, but now, my songwriting and style is always influenced by who I am listening to and following at the time. Recently these artists have been Lennon Stella, Sody etc.

What advice do you have for hopeful songwriters who would like to start releasing their music?

Be true to yourself and find your sound. Release, play and write songs you believe in, not what others want to hear!

Outside of music, what are your biggest passions?

Outside of music, I am super into fashion! I am a sucker for clothes… I also love keeping a healthy lifestyle, which has been one of my main focuses during lockdown, as well as spending more time with my family, but overall, I spend most of my time on music, whether that’s writing, preparing for my next release, or experimenting with production.

Looking ahead, what do you have planned for the year?

I’m working on finishing my EP to release it in summer. I am super excited to share some new songs that have been up my sleeve for a long time, especially when they have been built up with production! Finding my sound has been so enjoyable, but I cannot wait to start gigging again when it is safe to do so, and play to real faces again! Praying we are able to do that later in the year.

How has covid-19 affected your career so far?

The pandemic has had a massive affect on my career, as I feel as though its been halted, which has been the most frustrating thing. I haven’t been able to go to the studio as often, there have been no gigs, therefore no new audiences to play to. I’ve also lacked inspiration, and tried but found writing sessions over zoom strange. Although its been tough, it just makes releasing music again in the following year more exciting!
