Open Door: Harry Horrigan on learning about all things radio

Coming across the post via LinkedIn, I was curious, so I applied. After a phone interview, I successfully secured my place on the program. The Open Door Mentorship helped me in so many ways. Teaching me so much about the industry and opening my eyes to different professionals’ perspectives and areas of work.

Speaking with multiple producers, pluggers, presenters, and more within the radio industry has helped me construct a path as I take my first steps into my career. Regular meetings with my allocated mentor were scheduled where I learned about radio plugging and the impact of this. I was also being nurtured and prepared for entry into the industry. My mentor George, who specialises in Radio Plugging, was full of knowledge and contacts that he arranged zoom calls with. These meetings allowed me to learn from the journeys of industry folk. They showered me with tips and advice that I really would not have been able to get anywhere else, especially during the lockdown. I did not believe it could have been possible to gain any experience or knowledge however this scheme proved that completely wrong.

My experience was enhanced by the knowledge shared through webinars each week from a range of industry professionals - from people in publishing, radio, streaming to independent artists.

Open Door has given me so much fresh insight into the industry. Since finishing University, only a matter of weeks before the mentorship began, I felt scared and intimidated by what was next. The whole storm of coronavirus was also changing everything in such a drastic way. However, Latch really showed me a path that I needed to take, and that it is possible to go down this path in order for me to achieve my career goals. I am so grateful to George and Alex for all of their efforts with the program, especially in these difficult times. It has certainly helped me on my way as I progress into my career in the music industry.
